It’s Snowing

It’s snowing and I still have to go into Santa Fe to buy groceries for tomorrow. My daughter, Erika, and several friends are driving up from Albuquerque to spend Christmas Eve day walking around the Plaza, going to a movie, coming home to eat posole and tamales and take a nap before going to Midnight Mass at St. Francis Cathedral.

Our youngest kitten, Matisse ( aka Mikey ) was taken to the vets this morning to be neutered.  He’ll have to be separated from the other two kittens tonight so he doesn’t pull stitches.  He is a darling “apricot” Siberian kitten with fluffy fur and long ear hairs.  He looks like a little alien and has the sweetest disposition of any cat I’ve ever known.   His half brother, Morandi also has a very sweet, gently disposition. It must be the nature of that breed.

Nearing the End of 2009

We’re nearing the end of 2009. Whew! What a year ! Many mistakes were made business-wise but were imbued with  lessons for improvement in 2010.   Daily Painters of New Mexico,LLC still exists as an LLC  but the websites, www.dailypaintersnewmexico.com, www.dailypaintersamerica.com and www.dailypainterstothetrade.com are being forwarded to a totally new website, www.artgraze.com.

Daily painting  ( at least thinking about  art on a daily basis)  is essential to a dedicated artist.  That doesn’t mean that there is a piece of art completed each day, but the need to create is like the need to breath.  Try not breathing for a day.

The ArtGraze website is as much a part of my artistic work and  passion as is my painting.  I have made a committment to post on this blog and another created for ArtGraze frequently.   I am also on Twitter as @artgrazer and on Facebook.  Yes, 2010 will be all about creating community.

Gourd 36" x36" Encaustic on Panel SOLD

This is my first posting on this blog. It features a painting that I created in November, 2008 in a workshop given by encaustic artist, Ellen Koment at her studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  I have worked in the encaustic medium prior to this but in a much smaller format.  Working in a larger dimension with encaustics requires working in areas within the whole in a strategic manner.

I overcame my fear of using a torch and now prefer it over the use of a heat gun as a source of heat.  I love working in the ancient medium of encaustic.  It is direct and engaging.  You must be very focused while working so that you don’t incure personal injury or damage the image in progress although corrections are easily made.

I will write more about encaustics in my upcoming blogs.  Until then, I invite you to visit my other websites, www.dailypaintersnewmexico.com, www.dailypaintersamerica.com and www.dailypainterstothetrade.com.
